Pastels Day 3-5

Today, students are going to begin their original, large scale, pastel drawing.  They spent the last two days learning some basic pastel techniques.  They have already determined what they will be drawing, and have uploaded source images to my Dropbox Folder.  To prepare for class, I have printed the photos for each student.

Before beginning, I go over again what this project is all about.  This serves two purposes:  

1) It reminds students what the guidelines for the project are

2)  It helps fill in the gaps for students who were either absent, or called out of the room last class.

Before getting started on our studio time, we will spend a few minutes talking about Degas and taking notes in our sketchbooks.  I try to introduce one artist every week.

At this point, I ask students to do a brief thumbnail to plan their composition while I start handing out supplies.  They have the rest of the day, then 2 more class periods to complete the work.  At the end of the third day, I will add another class period if the class needs it.

For each day, I follow the same clean up procedures from the first two days.
